MSR usually makes pretty good equipment and these MXT boots are no expection..... I've used several brands of cheaper boots. And by "cheaper" I mean under $200 bucks. I'm sure there are better boots out there by Alpinestar and other high-end makers but they cost twice as much. I would compare the MSR MXT to anything sold by Thor, Fly, Fox, Shift, O'neal, Answer etc..... and compared to anything this boot can hold its own. They are very comfy and offer a wide variety of adjustments. I have large calves and most boots are too snug in that area. But these are just about perfect and offer an endless adjustment. The buckle design is one of my favorites of any boot I've owned. They grab easy and tightly and lock down securely. The boots are tough and offer a lot of heavy plastic, but once broken in they are comfy. Break in is not too long, mine were good after a couple rides. I would say the MSR MXT boots are very good and for the money they are great.

Safety is taken seriously at MSR. MXT boots have great exterior protection with leather wrapped with a hard shell in high impact areas. Flexibility behind the ankles, from accordion stitched leather, increases range of motion. Hard plastic, in front on the shins and on top of toes, knocks away roost while keeping foot pegs from injuring riders.
